A confluence of global flavours

It’s seldom that a dining space fits all three bills: Business, leisure, and fine dine. But, being in a mall, in the centre of Delhi’s business as well as market districts, MKT (pronounced ‘market’) at The Chanakya easily assumes these roles as and when required. Launched earlier this year, boasting of 17 global cuisines, they recently completed opening all cuisine offerings. With small, open restaurants spread around Foodhall, the gourmet grocery store, you can shop for international ingredients and relish varied cuisines, all on one floor.

Walk down the elaborate staircase in The Chanakya to a luxe vision of the food court. MKT has several restaurants with open seating, next to each other. You can sit at one and order as many cuisines as you like. Spread out in a circular fashion around Foodhall, where you can shop (special short-height carts for parents to keep the toddlers busy), it opens to their bar, Noi, on the other end. Solid lines and colours are enhanced by the richly done interiors, bringing home the idea of a luxury food market perfectly.

The 17 cuisines can be broadly divided into Mexican, Indian, Pan-Asian, Italian, European, and Mediterranean. A refreshing Pomelo Salad set the stage for quality ingredients used to make dishes you know from before, but done really well to catch the comfort food radar. This was followed by Tacos, with in-house tomato salsa on the side. The batter-fried fish ones came in soft-shell tacos, with the drizzle of mayo on top making it a palate pleaser. The hard-shell Chicken Tacos on the other hand, did not carry the crisp texture of a hard-shell taco, and the grilled chicken pieces could be lower on the spice and oil. Moving over to Asian, the Chicken Dimsums wrapped in succulent meat and came sitting on chilli oil, making for an appetising bite. The Salmon Sushi follows suit, with a drop of mayo as topping and fresh wasabi to make for a flavourful pop.

The pizzas are made with fresh dough prepared every day, making these a go-to for crust lovers. The Pepper Prawns won us over, with a slightly crackling coat bursting with cooked pepper flavour. Rounding everything off was the Strawberry Sorbet. A winner on all counts, the farm-fresh fruit can be tasted in every bite, and the absence of additives is makes it that much better. A special shout-out to the non-alcoholic Kokum Cocktail. Reminiscent of childhood flavours, it’s a nostalgic throwback to Fatafat and Hajmola candies we overdosed on as kids. While that may not read as inviting, trust us, it’s a must-have.

Chic interiors set the tone for tried and tested dishes that hit the mark with well-balanced flavours at MKT. We love the flexibility of grabbing a quick bite packed into a day of shopping, a relaxed lunch date with friends, or just a trip to do groceries and sip some good coffee while piling up the cart. The expansive menu spoils one for choice, and mini wine bar (which we didn’t try) looks promising.
