Even if you consider yourself a full-fledged urbanite, living in a perpetually busy, fast-paced city like Singapore can really take its toll on you. Considering our hectic schedules and demanding lifestyles, sometimes all we need is to get away every once in a while. After all, it’s no secret that there is no better way to energise and refuel than by immersing yourself in nature.
When you’re travelling, the lodging you choose can make or break your vacation just as much — if not more than — the destination itself. While we love staying at some of the most luxurious hotels in the world, sometimes all we want is a little bit of an adventure — think private islands, medieval castles, safari lodges and treetop houses. Thanks to apartment rental services such as Airbnb, staying at these unique accommodations is as simple as tapping on a button.
While some of Airbnb’s most wished for listings may be tucked away in far-flung locales, you don’t need to travel halfway across the world to indulge in a jungle retreat. Our favourite beach destination, Bali, is also home to a world-renowned bamboo treetop house that has put itself on the wishlists of travellers and celebrities alike. Of course, if you’re yearning for an escape away from the region, there are many other options in Atlanta, South Carolina and sunny Hawaii.
If you’ve always wanted to fulfil your childhood dreams of living like Tarzan and Jane, here are 5 beautiful treetop houses around the world that make truly unique hideaways.

Secluded Intown Treehouse, Atlanta
Known as Airbnb’s #1 most-wished-for listing last year, this beautiful fairytale-like treehouse is a hidden gem within the heart of in-town Atlanta. Featuring a suite of three rustic cabins (named Mind, Body, and Spirit) set amidst greenery and connected by rope bridges, each room is furnished with antique objects and natural artefacts. The treehouse is made from recycled materials, including 80-year-old windows from a Masonic Temple in South Carolina.
For a truly unique experience, you can choose to sleep in a hammock on the open-top circular deck built around a 150-year-old Southern short-leaf pine and surrounded by towering trees and lush greenery.

The treehouse is built using natural materials with large windows that let natural light in, and runs on a solar power system and rainwater catchment system. Owner Kristie Wolfe filled its interiors with her eco-chic DIY projects — which include the bedroom’s solar lantern chandelier and platform bed, hanging rope lights, porthole windows, rock sink, and hanging bed made from a trampoline and rope that dangles below the treehouse.
The treehouse retreat is located only 16 kilometres from Volcano National Park, and is close to a world-class snorkelling spot, black, green and white sand beaches, and Mauna Kea.
